Sony Masterworks
| Описание: | Originally formed as a label in the 1990s by Sony after its taking over of the [l=CBS] Records group, echoing the former labels [l=CBS Masterworks], and [l=Columbia Masterworks]. Two further Masterworks series were formed under [l=Sony Classical], [l=Masterworks Heritage] in 1997 (defunct by 2008), and [l=Masterworks Expanded Edition] in 2003 (defunct by 2007). Sony BMG Masterworks label group was formed after the merger of Bertelsmann Music Group and Sony in 2004, as a merging of the two company's classical portfolios, Sony Classical and BMG Classics, including BMG's RCA Red Seal, Arte Nova Classics, and Deutsche Harmonia Mundi product lines and the existing Sony Masterworks series. In 2006, Sony BMG Masterworks launched three new labels, [l=Masterworks Broadway], [l=Masterworks Jazz], and Masterworks Opera (defunct by 2011). After the acquisition of Bertelsmann's shares in the former Sony BMG in 2008, Sony BMG Masterworks became the Sony Masterworks label group on January 1, 2009. In 2010, Sony Masterworks launched a new label entitled simply 'Masterworks' (with the Masterworks text within a rectangular box as a logo). The division owns rights to recordings dating from the 20th century and late 19th century, including ones featuring Enrico Caruso, Mario Lanza, Fritz Reiner, Arturo Toscanini, Artur Rubinstein, Jascha Heifetz, E. Power Biggs, and Plácido Domingo, as well as from more recent performers such as Yo-Yo Ma, and Joshua Bell. It is also responsible for Sony's immense archives of film scores (including scores for such films as Star Wars, The Phantom of the Opera, Memoirs of a Geisha and many others) and theater soundtracks, via its Masterworks Broadway imprint. In the USA, Sony Classical is represented by the Sony Masterworks label group. Outside the USA, Sony Classical business is handled by Sony Classical International in Berlin (see [l=Sony Classical] for contact details).
