| Описание: | The original Ace Records was established in America's deep south in 1955 but rose to prominence as a result of its involment in the R&B music of New Orleans. Founder [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/John+Vincent]Johnny Vincent[/url], who launched his own Champion label in Mississippi and worked for Speciality Records, released AJ Collins 'I Got The Blues For You' as the first Ace record. The label's first succes came with [a=Huey "Piano" Smith], and this followed by Joe Tex and Frankie Ford, whose hit 'Sea Cruise' was produced by Vincent. [a=Dr. John], the leader of New Orleans music for four decades, began his career with Ace Records, when he organised, played on and produced sessions as [a=Mac Rebennack]. He remembers that many of the musicians had to threaten Vincent to get their money: 'They had to pull a gun to get paid, and this wasn't for their royalties'. A merger with [l=Vee Jay Records] in the early '60s turned Ace into a less-than-prestigious pop label before it disappeared as an active record label. John Vincent, who was born John Vincent Imbragulio and who died in February 2000, sold the label to UK re-issues specialist [l=Westside]. |
