Taking the long way home is something Jen Militia singer Mike Dainjah is very familiar with. In 2000 the Trinidad born poet rebeled against his first love: hip hop to front blues rock band Stone Prophets. By 2004 he found himself frustrated and unfulfilled. "I held out for as long as I could man but I knew I would have to be an MC again!" Dainjah recruited his best friend, virtuoso guitarist J.Double and went to work. The mission was simple: "Pop music these days is mad lame." So with a blank slate and his new friends in tow Dainjah made the new sound. Equal parts soul, punk and hip hop, the sound is explosive. "If you take the sexiness of hip hop and the swagger of punk rock then you pretty much know what we're about." Dainjah preaches rock gospel with a soulful old school voice and effortlessly mixes this with the flows of a Champion MC. Girls, guns and gin are the Jen Militia's forte but true introspection is never far from the party. As the always quotable Mikey D says: "There's nowhere to hide from the truth." On 'Citizen' he reminisces about being in love with a 'broken girl'. On the driving lead single 'Not A Test' he growls at the Sucka Mcs 'come on out your graves for the mind!" On 5GF he leaves no mistake: "Got 5 girlfriends and no control but the 2 I love best are rock and roll." With a hot album and loyal congregation Jen Militia is serving notice: the airwaves are about to get a little more daingerous!
